Studies indicate that Georgia uses three times more energy than the average OECD country for compared with output. As prices rise, this has a direct impact on the production costs of Georgian enterprises and places them at a distinct disadvantage in a global economy.

Using available technology, Georgian companies can reduce energy consumption by over 20%, a saving of some Euro 12 million to Georgian businesses.

The EBRD has made available a credit line of $ 35m to help increase investment in Renewable Energy Projects, Industrial Energy Efficiency Projects, and in Residential Energy Efficiency in Georgia. Credits under this facility are now available from the TBC bank.

Benefits to Business

Energy prices are rising and this raises the cost of doing business. Reducing energy use can help you become more competitive by:
* Reducing costs
* Producing more with the same amount of energy

To help you do this, GEEP is offering a limited number of free energy audits to businesses. These will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis to help eligible companies identify the investments that make sense for them.

Some of the more common energy saving investments for manufacturers include:
  • Boilers
  • Steam efficiency
  • Improved control processes
  • Compressed air
  • Reusing heat
  • Motors
These technologies could all be implemented in Georgia today.
